DANCE | MOVE | JOURNEY
I am available to support you in touching those places in you — the small, still places, the large, wild places — that may be waiting patiently, just beneath the surface, to inspire and ignite you. In movement practice and dynamic inner work on the mat, we’ll travel together in safe, supportive spaces, to encourage the expression of what’s important to you, from the inside out.
“Michael’s presence has helped anchor me into the abundance of the present moment. This allows me to feel grounded, present, safe and welcomed. Time moves at a pace which feels natural with Michael. He graciously shares passed-along wisdom from his own teachers, which continues to inspire a life worth leading for me.” — Hannah B.
Soul Motion | Dance of Discovery
Supported by a wide assortment of bracing music, poetic prompts and a generous field of welcoming movers, we dance Sunday mornings in Berkeley to find solace and sanctuary.
All are welcome in this experiment in presence, where we have the opportunity to move alone, with one or more partners, in the vast possibilities of playing in community and the infinite field of the collective unconscious. I offer invitations to open the body, soul and spirit to the aliveness that is our birthright. Come away refreshed, awake, both empty and full, and ready to see yourself and the world in a new light of possibility.
Sundays, 10-11:30am / Berkeley Finnish Hall, 1970 Chestnut Street.
Music greets you at 9:45.
$25 at the door
“Michael creates a space in which exploration of the intense and complicated aspects of emotion and human interaction feels safe. He weaves together music and words, inviting joy, sorrow, memory and connection. As an introvert, this is a huge gift. And the music is just extraordinary.” — Sarah C
“Michael is able to hold a strong container during the Soul Motion class. I feel held in the space and able to move through what often feels like an entire arc of inner processing. Michael supports this by attuned invitations to the dancers and a very good and new playlist each week. His class is a highlight of my week and I can’t recommend it enough.” — Anika D
Midweek Movement Practice
An hour on Zoom, mostly inducting solo movement with gentler, more textural music to move with and be moved by. Weekly on Wednesdays.
We gather online, and use Zoom functions like spotlighting and pinning to point to the possibility of witnessing and being moved by what we take in from one another. Verbal or other modes of sharing often fill the screen as the hour winds down. Music and readings support our capacity to be present. All are welcome!
Wednesdays, 9-10am Pacific Time, on Zoom
$10-$15 scale, via the usual online platforms

“Michael Z has a deft but gentle hand in allowing me to navigate into the deep, sometimes dark, mostly light, parts of my soul in a community container that is as full of trust as it is made of movement. I need that trust to unfold into the magic of movement.”
— Neil G
“Michael is a graceful and inspired DJ and somatic/dynamic guide. His gentleness and humility invite us all to find ourselves in our body and movement.” — S.U.
Open Floor Community Dance
A lightly facilitated dance, held loosely by the principles of Open Floor movement practice: inclusivity, awareness of and care for self and others.
We gather on Saturday and Sunday mornings in San Rafael and Sausalito, respectively. I lead at the Saturday dance, about once a month. All are welcome.
Saturdays, 9:30-11:30am / Pickleweed Community Center, San Rafael
$25 in advance or at the door
“Michael's facilitation provides me exactly what I want and need from a movement practice: inspiration, rather than instruction. Whether it be via a poem or just a suggested intention, that is all I need to be set free. And his musical curation becomes a perfect adjunct to that very personal journey.” — Brett W
Non-ordinary States of Consciousness Journey Sessions
We work together to explore internal landscapes of past, present and future, for healing, growth, and freedom.
In preparatory and integration sessions of 1-2 hours, and in daylong journeys using present-moment awareness practices like meditation and breath work, we may come to look at our lives and the world with an expanded perspective. Steps forward can become clearer, and we may be increasingly at ease in all our relations.
“Michael offers a lovingly attuned guiding presence. Throughout my journey with him I felt safe, cared for, and listened to in subtle ways. He is a genius with music. And I loved his sense of playfulness and humor which lightened the mood. I recommend him as a guide without reservations. Savor your journey with him!” — Steve M.
“Michael held such solid, compassionate, wide space for me on my journey. I could feel his deep holding as I traveled through sometimes painful, sometimes wondrous places. I could feel the power of having a loving witness to my very tender process. I felt free to bring my full self, and could feel that I did such deep work because I was in the presence of someone who has also done a lot of deep work. That journey grew my capacity as a human being, and many months later, I continue to reap the benefits. With great heart, I highly recommend working with Michael.” — Angela H
